Petition to Improve Adjunct Conditions at Duquesne

Some friends of mine close to the recent, widely-publicized story of the death of adjunct Margaret Mary Vojtko have drafted a petition and posted it at change.org. Many of them former students of Vojtko, they hope that this petition will generate enough support to change adjunct conditions at Duquesne and elsewhere. You can sign the petition here:

The thing that this story highlights best, I think, is the fact that no matter how much the Catholic university is committed to charity, social justice, and fair labor practices, it simply cannot afford to implement these principles at the broadly institutional level. Which is to say, it shows that the market, not justice, ultimately governs its treatment of workers.
