This video, which gives a different angle from this one, further calls into question the notion that the police at the UC-Davis pepper spray incident were ‘cut off’ from their support or ‘surrounded’ by an angry mob of student protesters. Isn’t that a police car right behind them? Isn’t there a clear route directly to it? How about you get in the car and drive yourself back to the precinct, Mr. Officer.
This is what democracy looks like?
Also notice that the police officer stepped over the line of seated students, which further calls into question the notion that the students were somehow “cutting the officers off from support.” They were sitting on the ground. There are other videos in which you can see the same officer who pepper-sprayed the students talking to one of them, almost friendly. It’s very clear that the officers were free to leave if they wanted to.
You’d have to be blinded by pepper spray not to see that they were free to leave. Strike that. Even with pepper spray in your eyes you can see that.
